From Target to Advocate: Why I Created Essential Business Behaviors

Twenty-five years ago, I wasn't teaching people how to recognize toxic behaviors — I was surviving them.

Not once. Not twice.

Four times I was targeted by workplace bullies during some of the most brutal economic periods in modern history — the Dot Com Bomb and the Great Recession.

The scariest part?

I had the qualifications, the dedication, the work ethic...

but bullying doesn't care about your credentials.

I graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.

I trained in organizational psychology.

I knew the science. I understood human behavior.

But that didn't stop:

  • A well-known female professor and acclaimed public health researcher

  • Two consultants I interned with

  • And even members of my own in-laws

...from trying to destroy my career, my confidence, and my stability.

By the end of the Great Recession, I had no job.

No family support.

No references I could start.

I was blacklisted.

I spent my days picking up plastic bottles, taking online surveys, and fighting just to make a student loan payment that had ballooned because of someone else's sabotage.

And here's the heartbreaking truth — my story is not rare.

Targets of workplace abuse face isolation, retaliation, and professional devastation every single day.

That's when I made one commitment:

No one should have to go through this alone.

I found workplace bullying support groups.

I rebuilt my career by helping others survive theirs.

I trained under Dr. Gary Namie at Workplace Bullying University.

I became trauma-informed.

For 14 years, I've supported targets in every stage of recovery—from crisis, to rebuilding, to reintegrating into healthier workplaces.

And over 25 years of research, coaching, and lived experience, I discovered something powerful:
